"Dr. Heil is painstakingly meticulous."

Despite losing about 30 pounds in 2009, I still couldn't lose my male breasts. I dieted and worked out at the gym routinely and nothing would remove the unwanted fat around my chest. I knew at that point, it was not going to get better. I hated to see pictures of myself, I was so unhappy with this part of my appearance.

So, I decided to schedule a consultation with Dr. Heil. He and I discussed my concerns and worked out a plan together. I chose Dr. Heil because he is passionate about cosmetic surgery and is painstakingly meticulous. I also appreciated his compassion for his patients and interest in their overall well-being.

In December 2009, I underwent my gynecomastia surgery. I went into the surgery with realistic expectations. I would have been happy with the slightest bit of correction. Shortly after surgery, I went back to Dr. Heil to have my bandages removed. I almost passed out at the difference I saw. Not only was my problem gone, but I never realized what a nice chest I had underneath it all. Dr. Heil is truly gifted. Now, I purposely take my shirt off to go out to the mailbox, can wear tank tops and can go to the beach with confidence.

Dear Doctor Heil,
It has been 6 months since my surgery. I can't believe the transformation to my body and chest. I wanted to write to you today to tell you how much this surgery meant to me and how pleased I am that I chose you as my surgeon. I want other men to realize they are not alone and hopefully they can learn from my story.

I hated for so many years having Gynecomastia. I thought during my adolescent years I could accept my condition, however, as I entered into college it increasing became difficult for me to socialize with friends, most importantly girls. Summertime was the worst for me because I was too embarrassed to take off my shirt. Men were not very kind - they would make fun of my chest and say that I looked like a women, I was often told I had "man boobs". My self confidence was at an all-time low.

I tried very hard to work out and watch my diet. I thought if I could strengthen my muscles, my chest would flatten and I would lose the excess fat. After my senior year of college, I decided I would take control of my situation and would seek options.

I began researching my condition over the internet and discovered that I was not alone. This was such a relief. I was excited to find out this could be corrected with surgery. I found your website on the internet and called your office right away. I spoke with your Patient Coordinator, Rose, who spent at least ½ hour going over the procedure and talking with me about my options. We ended the conversation about the cost of the procedure. I left the office convinced that I would be back but first I needed to save enough money. It took me 6 months and with the help of Care Credit, I was able to proceed with my surgery as planned.

Now, after years of being embarrassed, I feel so self assured, confident and just happy.

I have no problems taking off my shirt at the pool. My confidence is restored and I want to thank you for this gift. My expectations have been exceeded and now I am excited about my future. Thank you so much again for the time and compassion you showed me every step of the way.

I hope my story will inspire others to make the step to having Gynecomastia surgery.

Dear Doctor Heil,
Thank you for everything you did for my son, Ryan. My husband and I for years were in denial about my son's condition. When our son was 13, we began to notice his breast looked more swollen than other boys, especially around the areola. He was always a little overweight so we dismissed it has going through puberty and eventually it would diminish. At age 15, we began to see our son become very withdrawn. He did not want to participate in sports and most importantly he did not want to go to the pool for summer break. This was so heart-breaking for us but we felt he was young and it this was just his way of growing.

We went to see our Pediatrician and he told me that this would eventually go away and to not worry about it. Just what I wanted to hear. However, I could tell my son was embarrassed; he didn't even want to take off his shirt. My son opened up to me that evening. He said his friends have been making fun of him for years. I made an appointment for my son with Doctor Petraglia, our Primary Care who talked with us and ran several tests including checking his hormone levels. After all the tests, he told us that Ryan was definitely a candidate for Gynecomastia surgery. This was the first time I heard of such a surgery.

I called your office the very next day and scheduled my son to see you in your Upper St. Clair office on the first Saturday of December. Once there, my son and husband felt so comfortable with you. You were not intimated or irritated with the hundreds of questions we asked. This meant the world to us that you took time and showed us compassion. We were so impressed with your work that we know you would be the surgeon for our son. Ryan left the appointment in such high spirits.

After our consultation, we met with Renee and she reviewed with us the cost of the procedure. My husband and I had no other choice by to make this happen for our son. We paid for his procedure part on credit card and the other a loan. It was worth every penny. This was the best Christmas gift we could give our son.

Ryan is now, 8 months after surgery. He was very patient and optimistic during his recovery. We began to see his spirit and confidence shine. We will be seeing you in the next few weeks; I can't wait for you to see Ryan. I want to thank you again for everything you did for my family. We are blessed to have met you and we will be forever grateful.

On March of last year, I went ahead and met with Dr. Brian Heil. Going into the surgery room, it was nerve racking, but Dr. Heil's team of nurses and board certified anesthesiologist made me feel very comfortable. I awake with little pain, but tired. I had a bandage rolled around my chest very tight, and was told to take it off in two days, then to put the pressure garment on. When I first took off my bandages, I couldn't believe what I was looking at. My confidence level went up 100%. Its been 7 days now and my results are amazing. No swelling at all. My chest looks amazingly perfect. I can now wear any shirt I want and take my shirt off without the fear of others staring at me. For those of you who are considering surgery, I can't say enough about the surgical talent and expertise of Dr. Heil. He is amazingly patient and he truly changed my life for the better.

Thank you for the amazing job you did for me. This was a very scary and embarrassing step for me to take. I have always been aware that my chest was not "quite" normal. My high school and college days were difficult for me since I rarely got close enough to girls for fear they would make fun of the way I looked.
